These are
typical examples of successful applications of infrared thermography to either
trending or diagnosing electrical components prior to failure. The majority of
electrical system and component failure modes and mechanisms can be identified
through trending and analysis of increased heat output in accordance with Ohm’s
Law. Identifying potential faults or pending failures before they become
critical allows corrective action to be scheduled with minimum disruption to
system operation; the difference between a successful preventative verses
reactive maintenance program.
